Marine Fixed Mount VHF radio's are used to communicate from ship to ship and ship to shore on all large ships and most motorized small craft. The reasons may include summoning rescue services and communicating with harbours and marinas. The units all operate on the VHF frequency range, between 156 to 174 MHz. Some units now include the DSC or Digital Selective Calling feature which transmits the GPS position of the vessel to nearby DSC equiped ships when in distress.
